Ingredients for Mesh Om Ali:
- 1 (500 g) box Phyllo sheets, thawed.
- 170 g melted butter.
- 1 big can Condensed milk.
- 500 ml whipping cream.
- Few drops rose essence.
- For serving.
- Ground cinnamon for dusting (optional).
- Nuts of your choice (optional).
- Edible rose petals (optional).
Step by step how to cook Mesh Om Ali:
- Adjust oven rack to middle position and pre-heat @ 200C.
- Brush some of the melted butter all over the sides and and bottom of a large baking dish - set aside.
- Working with one Phyllo sheet at a time and the long side facing you scrunch up the Phyllo sheet like a fan and place it in your baking dish.
- Repeat step 3 until your baking dish is filled up, arranging sheets next to each other.
- Generously brush remaining melted butter all over the Phyllo sheets taking care to brush into the small folds and books of the pastry well..
- Transfer to oven and bake until golden brown. This could be 20-25 minutes.
- Once pastry is baked, remove from oven and pour over Condensed milk, cream and essence. Pastry will sizzle.
- Transfer back to the oven and bake until the edges start to bubble and most of the liquid has been soaked up. This could be 5-10 mins.
- Remove from oven, dust with cinnamon powder, sprinkle nuts and rose petals. Let slightly cool and serve warm immediately.
