Ingredients for Mesh Om Ali:

  1. 1 (500 g) box Phyllo sheets, thawed.
  2. 170 g melted butter.
  3. 1 big can Condensed milk.
  4. 500 ml whipping cream.
  5. Few drops rose essence.
  6. For serving.
  7. Ground cinnamon for dusting (optional).
  8. Nuts of your choice (optional).
  9. Edible rose petals (optional).

Step by step how to cook Mesh Om Ali:

  1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and pre-heat @ 200C.
  2. Brush some of the melted butter all over the sides and and bottom of a large baking dish - set aside.
  3. Working with one Phyllo sheet at a time and the long side facing you scrunch up the Phyllo sheet like a fan and place it in your baking dish.
  4. Repeat step 3 until your baking dish is filled up, arranging sheets next to each other.
  5. Generously brush remaining melted butter all over the Phyllo sheets taking care to brush into the small folds and books of the pastry well..
  6. Transfer to oven and bake until golden brown. This could be 20-25 minutes.
  7. Once pastry is baked, remove from oven and pour over Condensed milk, cream and essence. Pastry will sizzle.
  8. Transfer back to the oven and bake until the edges start to bubble and most of the liquid has been soaked up. This could be 5-10 mins.
  9. Remove from oven, dust with cinnamon powder, sprinkle nuts and rose petals. Let slightly cool and serve warm immediately.
