How to make Sunday Pilau at home

Ingredients for Sunday Pilau:

  1. 2 tbsp oil or butter or ghee.
  2. 3 small pieces cinnamon stick.
  3. 2 cloves.
  4. 2 whole cardomom.
  5. 2 tsp turmeric.
  6. 1/2 tsp whole cumin.
  7. 3 tsp ground coriander.
  8. 4 tsp salt.
  9. 1 tsp ground black pepper.
  10. 8 curry leaves.
  11. 1/2 tsp leaf masala (optional, if u can find at the store).
  12. 1 tbsp ginger garlic red masala(or u can make your own paste).
  13. half green pepper cut into pieces.
  14. i medium onion chopped.
  15. 3 tomatoes chopped or blended.
  16. 25 g tomato paste.
  17. 1 brinjal cut into pieces.
  18. 1 cup frozen sweet corn.
  19. 3 medium potatoes cut into large cubes.
  20. chopped coriander.
  21. chopped mint.
  22. 4 tbsp plain yoghurt.
  23. 300 g carrots.
  24. 1 and 1/2 cups basmati rice (rinsed).
  25. 300 g baby carrots.
  26. 1/2 kg beef or mutton mince.

Step by step how to cook Sunday Pilau:

  1. Melt butter in the pot. add cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks, cloves, ground coriander,salt,black pepper,turmeric,leaf masala and curry leaves. allow the heat to release the flavours of the spices.
  2. Add the masala to the spices in the pot.
  3. While stirring throw in all your veggies, tomato paste and yoghurt.
  4. And.

  6. Stir in the uncooked rice.
  7. Add mince and 1 cup water. stir well..
  8. Let it cook on a high heat for about 20 mins until the rice becomes fluffy.
  9. Stir occasionally to prevent the rice from sticking to the pot..
  10. Once the rice swells, turn down the heat to lowest. keep the lid closed. Allow the food to steam together for +- 30 mins. until the potatoes are soft. you can add another 1/4 cup water if u find your rice or potatoes uncooked..
  11. While you are waiting for this, prepare yoghurt with chopped fresh coriander, mint and salt to taste..
