Ingredients for Chicken Akni:

  1. 500 g chicken fillets /portions.
  2. 1 large onion sliced.
  3. 2 tsp oil.
  4. 1 tbs butter.
  5. 2 stick cinnamon.
  6. 2 cardoman pods.
  7. 2 cloves.
  8. 1 tsp ginger & garlic paste.
  9. 1 tsp chilli powder.
  10. 1 tsp coriander powder.
  11. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder.
  12. 1 tsp jeera.
  13. 1 tomato grated/liquidised.
  14. 1/2 cup yogurt.
  15. 1/2 cup buttermilk.
  16. Few strands saffron.
  17. 2 cups parboiled rice.
  18. 2 tbs parboiled lentils.
  19. 3 potatoes parboiled.
  20. Curry leaves, chopped coriander, chillies.

Step by step how to cook Chicken Akni:

  1. In a pot add the oil and butter then add the whole spices (cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves) allow to sizzle.
  2. Add the onions and braise until a nice brownish colour.
  3. Add the ginger&garlic, all spices (turmeric and jeera) and cook few seconds then add the tomato cook for like 5 minutes.
  4. Add the buttermilk and yogurt cook for 15 minutes until the onions start to cook away on a medium heat not high.
  5. Add the chicken cook few minutes.
  6. Add the rice, potato, lentils, curry leaves, coriander leaves and chillies, mix well.
  7. Add some dollops of butter on top close pot with some foil and steam for 15 minutes on low heat..
  8. Serve with veggies, poppodams, dahi and atchar, Enjoy.
