Ingredients for Field Peas:
- 12 oz dried field peas.
- 3 chicken bouillon cubes.
- 1 T garlic powder.
- 1 tspn salt.
- 1 T red pepper.
- 1 Cup onion minced.
- 2 T bacon grease.
- Tabasco - 8 shakes.
Step by step how to cook Field Peas:
- Boil the peas for 2 minutes, drain, & cover with 2" water, sit for 4 hours minimum.
- Drain & just cover the peas with water, add garlic powder, salt, bouillon, & Cayenne. Bring to a low boil & let barely bubble for an hour.
- Saute the onion in bacon fat until just tender & add to peas.
- Turn heat up to medium-low & cook until peas are tender to preference, check seasoning.
- After they're added to your meal, they can be frozen! I pour them into Styrofoam cups to freeze dinner portions & easy defrosts..
