Ingredients for Haddock Breyani:

  1. 1 cup rice.
  2. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder.
  3. 1 tsp salt.
  4. 1/4 cup black lentils.
  5. Fish marinade:.
  6. 3 haddock fillets.
  7. 1 tsp bbq spice.
  8. 1 Tbs peri sauce.
  9. For frying:.
  10. 1 onion sliced into rings.
  11. 3 potatoes cut.
  12. Braising:.
  13. 1/2 chopped onion.
  14. 1 green pepper.
  15. 1 tsp jeera seeds.
  16. 2 grated tomatoes.
  17. 1 tsp dhanya and jeera powder.
  18. 3 Tbs masala.
  19. 1 Tbs kashmeri Masala.
  20. stick Cinnamon.
  21. Bayleaf.
  22. 1/2 cup mixed veg.
  23. 1/4 cup maas.
  24. 1/2 tsp garlic and ginger.
  25. Salt.
  26. Handfull Chopped dhanya.
  27. Handfull Chopped mint.
  28. Oil.

There are two theories where the word comes from. First theory that it comes from birinj, which is the persian word for rice. The second theory is that it comes from biryan which means to fry or roast. Scatter roughly a quarter of the rice over the base of the dish and top with a third of the peas, some lemon zest, half the haddock and a third of the sauce.

Step by step how to cook Haddock Breyani:

  1. Boil rice with the lentils, salt and turmeric powder till semi soft and strain.Fry the potatoes and onions and keep aside.Steam the haddock till flesh is white and strain..
  2. Break the haddock into big pieces, marinate it with the bbq spice and peri sauce and leave aside.Fry the 1/2 onion with green pepper, jeera seeds, cinnamon stick and bay leaf till done. Add the masala, dhanya and jeera powder, tomatoes, mixed veg, maas, salt and garlic and ginger, cook for 15mins.Add the chopped greens and take off heat.
  3. Layer with half of the rice, fish, fried potatoes and onions then rest of rice.Add 2 Tbs of butter and steam in the oven for 45mins at 180° c.Garnish with dhanya. Serve with sides of dhal and salads..
